IFA SUMMER READING CHALLENGE GAME 20

THE FIVE-MAN BAND!

Your Quest

The kingdom is in trouble. This is not especially unusual for kingdoms, but this time it is apparently “serious.”

The Macguff… er I mean, the “Crown of Stars,” an ancient magical relic that protects the realm, has been stolen by the dread sorcerer Malovar the Extremely Unpleasant and taken to his fortress beyond the mountains. If the Crown is not returned before the next full moon, its protective magic will fail and something vague but unquestionably terrible will happen to the kingdom.

Probably darkness. Perhaps a plague? Well, maybe fire? Almost certainly inconvenience.

The king has called for heroes to recover the Crown. Unfortunately, budget constraints mean he can only send five. Who will they be?

Build Your Party

Choose 5 of the 10 available hero archetypes to undertake the quest.

Choose carefully.

Once your party sets out, you cannot change your heroes.

Your party will face several obstacles on the road to Malovar’s fortress. After each one, you will discover how well your particular collection of extremely qualified professionals handled the situation.

Keep track of your score along the way.

At the end, you will tally your score and determine how successful your adventure really was!

To play through the adventure, click below. Then return to the IFA group post and give us your mission debrief!

Tell us who you picked for the mission, how you did, and who do you regret bringing the most?!?!?!?! 😊

A winner from the comments will be randomly drawn on September 6th and if they so choose, will receive a free ebook copy of Tears of an Indifferent God!

If the image to the right isn’t working, here is the text for the choices:

The Warrior — Strong, armored, dependable, and deeply suspicious of any problem that cannot be stabbed.

The Rogue — Sneaky, clever, excellent with locks, and surprisingly flexible about the concept of ownership.

The Mage — Commands forces beyond mortal comprehension, which is reassuring right up until they say, “I have an idea.”

The Healer — Keeps everyone alive despite the party’s ongoing campaign to make this as difficult as possible.

The Ranger — Tracks monsters, finds food, knows the wilderness, and is the only person who actually read the map correctly.

The Bard — Talks their way into trouble, talks their way out of trouble, and occasionally remembers they can also do magic.

The Paladin — Brave, honorable, divinely empowered, and capable of turning a five-minute shortcut into a forty-minute ethical discussion.

The Druid — Commands nature, speaks with animals, and generally regards civilization as an unfortunate planning error.

The Scholar — Knows ancient languages, forgotten legends, cursed artifacts, and precisely why everyone should stop touching things.

The Barbarian — Possesses enormous strength, tremendous courage, and only a passing acquaintance with the phrase “structural integrity.”
